St. Laurentius (Schweina)
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Laurentius is in the Schweina district of the city of Bad Liebenstein in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .
history
Before the 14th century Schweina already owned a church of St. Catherine . Later even a pastor was proven.
In 1513 the lay church the cornerstone for the present church . It had a square church tower with small corner helmets provided with slats, which was an expression of jurisdiction . On December 17, 1634 this tower and the chancel were destroyed by warriors of that time. Only the surrounding walls of the church remained as relics.
The pastor at the time, Hattenbach, not only led the faithful out of trouble, but also began to rebuild the church after a year of destruction. In 1652/1653 the chancel and tower were rebuilt according to their present appearance. In 1888 this church received a new organ . In 1667 the bells were bought that no longer exist, but others ring for them. A variety of charities for the perfection of the house of God have been created by believers.
In 1705 the interior of the church was renovated. They built lofts one. The pulpit was also given its current location at that time. The organ front with its wood carvings was created by a master from Kaltennordheim. The organ, however, is the work of the Strebel family from Nuremberg . The church clock came here from Bavaria around this time .
At the beginning of the 19th century new renovations were necessary, for example the roof , gallery parapets, benches and painting of the nave hall were required.
After 1989
The works of art were given protective grids. In the winter of 2007/2008, extensive dry rot infestation was discovered in the church roof . Many donated and helped remedy the evil. The construction work cost around 100,000 euros, including subsidies.
