STA Travel is a global provider of flight tickets, hotels and hostels , adventure travel , language travel , work & travel programs, package tours , rental cars, bus and train passes and travel insurance . The company's headquarters are in London. STA Travel is part of the Diethelm Keller Group , whose Travel division also includes the Globetrotter Group . Another well-known business area is Diethelm Keller Brands .
In August 2020, the owner company STA Travel Holding AG, which is based in Zurich, Switzerland, filed for bankruptcy.
STA Travel Group
In 1971 the Australian Union of Students founded the forerunner of STA Travel, AUS Student Travel. In 1979 what was then Edward Keller Holding Ltd. in Zurich, today the Diethelm Keller Group, the company. The company then operated under the name STA Travel with offices in Australia and Great Britain. In the following years the following offices were added: 1981 in New Zealand and Singapore , 1982 in USA and Malaysia , 1985 in Thailand and Japan, 1989 in Germany. This was followed in the 1990s by Taiwan, Indonesia, China, the Philippines, Austria, Norway, Finland and Switzerland. The group has more than 200 branches in twelve countries. The company also sells its products through franchises in 48 other countries.
Germany
In 1955, German students founded the Student Travel and Information Service (SRID). 1989 SRID becomes general agent for STA Travel in Germany. Two years later, STA Travel initially took over 50 percent of SRID, and in 1994 the remaining 50 percent. Since 1995 SRID has only operated under the name STA Travel. The company's headquarters are in Frankfurt am Main.
Austria
STA Travel GmbH (formerly Ökista, founded 1950) in Austria was founded in 2002, the company headquarters are in Vienna . So far there are nine STA Travel travel agencies within Austria.
Switzerland
STA Travel AG is a subsidiary of the STA Travel Group. Since September 15, 2001, the travel company SSR Reisen has been appearing on the market under the STA Travel brand. There are 13 STA Travel travel agencies in Switzerland. In August 2020, STA Travel Holding AG filed for bankruptcy.
