The SV Brilon (officially: Sportverein 1920 Brilon eV ) is a sports club from Brilon in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The first soccer team played a year in the highest Westphalian amateur league.

history

The association was founded in autumn 1920. After the end of the Second World War , the Brilon team initially played with average success in the district class. In 1954 he was promoted to the state league , which was the highest amateur league in Westphalia at the time. As the penultimate of the 1954/55 season , the Brilon team promptly had to relegate. The team lost 9-0 at the Meister Sportfreunde Siegen . In the following season, as runner-up behind TuS Sundern, he was promoted back to the national league. This was after the simultaneous introduction of the Association League Westphalia only the second highest amateur league.

In 1958 it went back to the district class. During the season there was a 9-0 defeat against SuS Niederschelden / Gosenbach . Again the direct rise and the Brilon were able to establish themselves in the national league. The highlight was the fifth place in the 1960/61 season. Three years later it went back to the district class, where the team established itself. In the 1970s, the Brilon youth team caused a sensation when they played for a year in the then double-track Westphalia League against teams like Borussia Dortmund and VfL Bochum . The qualification for the single-track Westfalenliga was only just missed.

The first men's team rose again in 1980 to the national league. Later, the Briloners relegated and in 2005 slipped into the district league A. Three years later they were promoted back to the district league, where the team was runner-up in 2011 behind SV Hüsten 09 . Another runner-up followed four years later, this time behind BC Eslohe . In the following round of promotion to the national league, the Brilon failed in the first round after a 1: 2 defeat against SpVg Brakel . In 2018 he returned to the national league as champions.
