The SV Werden 08 eV (officially: Sportverein Werden 08 eV ) was a sports club from the Essen district of Werden . The first soccer team played for three years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The association was founded in 1908. In 1930, the Werdeners rose to the then second-class first district class Ruhr and a year later managed to march through to the first-class Ruhr district league . Although the team rose immediately from bottom of the table, they beat Rot-Weiss Essen 3-1 during the season . After the end of the Second World War , the Werdeners qualified for the Ruhr district league in 1946 and a year later for the newly created state league , the highest amateur league on the Lower Rhine at the time.

Despite a surprising 1-0 win at Meidericher SV in the 1948/49 season, the team had to leave the national league at the end of the season after SV Werden 08 failed in relegation at SC Kleve 63 . The direct rise was missed as runner-up behind SV Byfang . Finally, in 1952, the Werdeners had to join the district class. It was not until 1962 that he was promoted to the district class again. In 1972 SV Werden 08 merged with VfB Werden, which was founded in 1912, to become ASV Werden . This in turn merged in 1995 with the SV Heidhausen to form SC Werden-Heidhausen .
