history

The program SWR2 Wissen has essentially three historical roots: the “Schulfunk”, the “Funkkolleg” and the “Aula”. While it used to be a stand-alone program, today all three components are integrated into the SWR2 Wissen podcast.

School radio

The daily feature series goes back to the earlier school radio of the joint program S2 Kultur of the former SWF and SDR broadcasters. After the two channels merged to form SWR, the series was renamed "SWR2 Wissen" in 1998.

Auditorium

For a long time, the Sunday “Aula” was an independent broadcast. It has existed under this name since September 1947. Its broadcasting slot on Sundays at 8:30 am has not changed since then. Numerous famous intellectuals of the early Federal Republic such as Ernst Bloch , Arno Gehlen , Theodor W. Adorno and Alexander Mitscherlich produced radio lectures for the program. In the late 1940s and then also 1950s Christian-religious themes with contributions that shed light on the moral, philosophical and historical foundations of the democratic order.

Funkkolleg and SWR2 Radio Academy

The priority series SWR2 Wissen Spezial - until 2017: "SWR2 Radio Akademie" - was created in 1995 as a replacement for the Funkkolleg , which was also co-designed by SWF and SDR and broadcast almost all over the ARD at the time , after both broadcasters had decided on the Funkkolleg - Leave the network.
