The Saab 210 , also Lilldraken or in German both small dragon and small dragon , is an experimental aircraft of the Swedish aircraft and car manufacturer Svenska Aeroplan AktieBolaget . Only one copy was made.
history
Saab had been working on the aerodynamics of double delta wings since 1945 and had already tested models in the wind tunnel when, in 1949, the request was made to design a successor to the Saab 32 Lansen, which was currently being developed, for the late 1950s. This led to construction drawings for the 1250 project, the later Saab 35 Draken .
In order to test the findings of the wind tunnel tests in flight, the Saab 210 was a scaled-down version of the Saab 35 with more swept wing outer edges and air inlets that extended to the tip of the nose. These were reset to cabin height in the course of the test. The type, which was built under secrecy, was created in 1950 and flew for the first time on January 21, 1952. There were no problems with the unconventional structure and so a few days later the order for the construction of three Saab 35 prototypes was issued.
The Saab 210 completed around 1000 test flights and was flown over the city to the public on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Stockholm on June 6, 1953.
Today it can be seen in the Flygvapenmuseum Linköping.
