Saarfest

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saarfest is a three-day folk festival on the Saar , directly opposite the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site . It is the largest festival in the city of Völklingen . Every year tens of thousands of visitors from all over Saarland and neighboring France visit the event at the ship landing stage and the Saar promenade under the motto Summer, Saar and Leisure .

Various activities will take place during the days of the event: dragon boat races (city championship, Saarland school championships), jet boat demonstrations, boat tours, introductory diving, children's entertainment. Furthermore, a stage and music program is offered with a radio station from Saarland.

The Saarfest was originally not intended as a regular folk festival, but was to take place in 2002 as a one-time inauguration party for the new ship landing stage / Saar-Promenade Völklingen (construction period 1999-2001). The event took place annually until 2015. After a suspension in 2016, the event is now only scheduled every two years due to financial bottlenecks in the city treasury.

The organizer is the Society for Economic Development, Innovation and City Marketing (GWIS) Völklingen mbH with the support of the City of Völklingen, the IG Wehrden eV and the Kanuclub Völklingen eV
