The Saarijärvi is a lake in the municipality of Taivalkoski in the Finnish countryside Northern Ostrobothnia near the border with Kainuu .
The 94.81 hectare lake is at an altitude of 238.8 m. It is located in the catchment area of the Iijoki .
Saarijärvi lies in an impact crater , which originally had a diameter of 2.2 km. The actual depression has a diameter of 1.4 to 1.5 km and a depth of 140 m. It is filled with sedimentary rocks. The age of the impact is estimated to be 600 - 1980 million years.
