Saat des Windes (Original: Seara de Vento ) is a novel by the Portuguese writer Manuel da Fonseca . It is one of the central works of neorealism in Portugal. Fonseca addresses the social problems of the people in his homeland, Alentejo .

action

The novel depicts the life of the Palma family, simple, traditional small farmers who live in a small village in the Alentejo. Their existence is at the mercy of the rigors of nature. They are suppressed by the big landowners and the GNR . The external influences undermine family relationships.

The family tries to earn a few escudos by smuggling across the nearby Spanish border . However, they are denounced by informers.

history

The work was published in Portugal in 1958 under the title Seara de Vento and was initially banned by the Estado Novo regime . In a German translation by Ilse Losa , it was first published in the GDR in 1967 under the title Gesäter Wind . In 1990 it was reissued by Beck & Glückler publishing under the title Saat des Windes .
