Saddleback Church

The Saddleback Church (Saddleback Valley Community Church) is a megachurch in Lake Forest , Orange County , California . The church was founded in 1980 by Rick Warren who continues to lead it today. Today it is one of the ten largest congregations in the United States, with around 22,000 worshipers.

Rick Warren and his community became known through the bestseller Leben mit Vision (Original title: The Purpose Driven Life ), which he wrote in 2002. It has been translated into 56 languages ​​and was the best-selling book in the world from 2003 to 2005.

On April 6, 1980, the first public service with 200 people was held at the Laguna Hills High School Theater at Easter. In the early 1990s, 2,300 worshipers found space in a tent on the Lake Forest campus , until a permanent building with 3,500 seats was finally completed in 1995. In the meantime, the Saddleback Church has grown into a megachurch, with campus locations in the USA and worldwide.

In addition to California, there are four international branches: in Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, Manila and, since October 2013, the first church in Europe in Berlin . It is led by Rob McGee. Services take place in the Kalkscheune, an event location directly behind the Friedrichstadtpalast.

Teaching and organization

Central to the ministry of the church are the five pillars of fellowship, discipleship, service, evangelism, and worship, which Warren also outlines in his book Life with Vision . She is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention .
