Safa Al Hashem (* 1964 ) is a Kuwaiti politician and the only woman who has a seat in Kuwait's parliament .

education

Safa Al Hashem graduated from Kuwait University , where she graduated with a degree in English literature . She then did her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Pennsylvania State University .

In 2011 the American University of Technology awarded her the title PhD Honoris Causa for her support for the development of Arab women and her commitment to underprivileged children.

Career

Before moving into politics, Al Hashem worked, among other things, in the Ministry of Higher Education. In 2005, she founded the Advantage Consulting Company (ACC), which provided economic consulting services. In 2007 she was named female company director of the year in the Middle East for her economic success .

politics

Al Hashem first ran for parliament in 2012 and won that election in the third constituency. After this parliament had dissolved prematurely, Al Hashem ran again in 2013 and was able to prevail again. In the following elections in 2016, Al Hashem was the only one of 15 female candidates to enter parliament. This makes her the first woman in Kuwait's history to defend her mandate in several successive elections.

Safa Al Hashem is known for her populist statements about foreigners coming to Kuwait. Among other things, she demands that they are not allowed to get a driver's license and that they should pay taxes for the use of roads and paths.
