Sagarroi is a Basque ska band that was formed in 2001. You have played in Cuba, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Serbia and Croatia, among others.

history

Sagarroi is the successor to the Basque cult combo Joxe Ripiau. Singer and guitarist Iñigo Muguruza used to be a member of the legendary Basque political bands Kortatu and Negu Gorriak alongside his brother Fermin Muguruza . Joxe Ripiau released four CDs on the Basque label "Esan Ozenki" and delighted with a unique, Caribbean-style fusion of raggamuffin, patxanka, ska and reggae. After the end of Joxe Ripiau, Sagarroi formed as a more guitar-oriented trio. A first, more punk-rock CD ("Meatzaldea", Metak 2001, D-Distribution via "Cargo Records") was made, but the old trombonist Joxe Ripiau soon returned and with him the long-awaited reflection on happier and sometimes melancholy mestizo sounds . In 2003 "Euria ari duela" was released (guests including Amparo Sanchez / Amparanoia & Yacine, singer of Cheb Balowski). The new album of the Basques has just appeared on Metak. "Toulouse" comprises 12 tracks, and on this third Sagarroi album there is an even more consistent continuation in the direction of Joxe Ripiau and a fiesta atmosphere. In between you can even hear a little cumbia, which evokes kinship with Karamelo Santo . The content is about a lot of politics and occasionally about love.
