Sagone coat of arms

The Corsican village Sagone with approx. 800 inhabitants belongs partly to the municipality of Vico , partly to the municipality of Coggia and is located 36 kilometers north of Ajaccio on the west coast of Corsica on the Gulf of Sagone.

history

Sagone was a bishopric from the 6th century . Pirate attacks and malaria resulted in the episcopal see being moved to Vico and later to Calvi in 1572 . The place sank into insignificance for a long time. Only the successful fight against malaria after the Second World War led to the emergence of a modern fishing and bathing resort.
