history
The milk merchant Friedrich Rose had started selling milk products in the basement at Kaiserstrasse 61 in Magdeburg since around 1886. After his death in 1888, his widow had a milk shop at Bahnhofstraße 15 in Magdeburg, in 1891 a milk shop at Franziskanerstraße 3a in Magdeburg, and in 1896 it became a milk spa, registered in 1898 as a dairy / milk shop and in 1913 as a dairy. After their mother's death in 1913, the two daughters Ada and Walter Rose traded as follows in Magdeburg: 1913 Hallesche Straße 1, 1920 Hallesche Straße / Milchkuranstalt, 1930 Milchkuranstalt + restaurant, 1935 café and confectionery and 1941 Café Sahneröschen, Porsestraße 2.
The core of the "Café Sahneröschen" building dates from the end of the 19th century. In 1924/25 Walther Rose converted the property into a kiosk with a garden bar. Walther Rose was probably an uncle of the two siblings, as Ada and Walda Rose's father was called Friedrich Rose and he died in 1886. It is also possible that Walther Rose was a brother of Ada and Walda. However, only 3 children of Friedrich Rose are known and none of these children was called Walther. In the restaurant known as the dairy , there was mainly milk and cake . Rose's daughters Ada and Walda also worked in the restaurant. With reference to the surname Rose and the goods on offer, the common name "Cream Rose" resulted.
After the Second World War , the Rose family had to give up the business. The property was used as a kindergarten for a long time . Later the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF) and, after the political change in 1989 in the GDR, the Association for the Promotion of Rationalization in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the GDR (VFR) had an office here. This was followed by use by a planning office. During this time there was a fire. After the planning office moved out, the cream rose stood empty for many years. There were further fires and damage caused by vandalism . The heavily dilapidated building was finally acquired by the Bartels family and renovated in 2008 in eight months in accordance with a listed building.
Today the cream rose is used as a house and wine office.
