Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is a Catholic university in the United States . The university has campuses in Winona , Minnesota, and one each in Minneapolis and Rochester . It belongs to the institute of the Brothers of Christian Schools .
history
Saint Mary's was founded as a college by Bishop Patrick R. Heffron in 1912 to provide higher education for men in the Diocese of Winona. In 1933 the De la Salle Brothers , a Catholic male order, took over the college. In the following years, Saint Mary's grew from 200 students to 500 in size and received university bachelor's degree recognition from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools . Since the Second World War, the number of courses and students has grown continuously. In 1969 women were first admitted to study at St. Mary's, later the College of Saint Teresa , a former college for women in Winona, was taken over. In 1995, Saint Mary's College was renamed Saint Mary's University of Minnesota .
Education
Today Saint Mary's University offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees. Around 5,400 students are enrolled at it. In addition to campuses in Winona, Minneapolis, and Rochester, it offers courses in other locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin .

Sports
