String winder
A string winder is an accessory for pulling strings on certain stringed instruments .
function
The string winder is used, for example, on guitars in which the upper part of the string is wrapped around a peg . On the guitar, the actual winding mandrel that holds the string is connected to the peg via a mechanism that enables sensitive tuning of the string through a translation . When changing strings, on the other hand, the winding mandrel has to perform several full revolutions in order to secure the string; here the translation is an obstacle. The string winder compensates for this disadvantage. It is attached to the peg to change the strings and enables a much faster turning of the peg compared to just operating the finger.
Small hand cranks are usually used; however, there are also string winders that are driven by a small electric motor.
