The Sakartwelo is a ski jumping hill of category K 115 in the Georgian town of Bakuriani . In addition to the K115 hill, the ski jumping facility also includes a category K 90, K 70 and K 45 hill. Only the K-45 hill is still used for national competitions today, the other three ski jumping hills are closed.

history

In 1935 the first ski jumping hill in Georgia was built in Bakuriani, it had a construction point of 40 meters. A ski jumping program for young Georgian ski jumpers was started at the same time.

In 1969 the ski jumping complex in Bukuriani was completely rebuilt: The 40 meter hill was replaced by four new ski jumping hills with construction points 115, 90, 70 and 45 meters. International ski jumping events took place on these jumps between 1971 and 1980. In 1971 the Soviet ski jumper Sergey Zontov jumped the hill record on the Sakartwelo with 115.5 meters.

Between 1980 and 2001 the jumps were no longer used. In 2001 a Georgian ski jumping championship took place here again, but it remained the only event for another 10 years. The annual Mishka-Mikaberidze Memorial Jumping has been held on the 45-meter hill since 2011. It is held in honor of the Georgian ski jumper Mishka Mikaberidze who fell on the hill in Kirov on September 3, 1982 at the age of 16 died as a result.

In 2013 the ski jumping hill complex around the Sakartwelo was visited by the Vice President of the Georgian Olympic Committee. This announced that the ski jumps of category K 45 and K 70 would be renewed according to international standards.

National championships

In 2001, the Georgian Ski Jumping Championships were held for the first time on the K-45 hill in Bakuriani. There was only one ski jumping competition, which Levan Kosanashvili could win.

In 2012 and 2013 the championships were held here again, and a junior competition was also held. The winners were again Levan Kosanashvili with a hill record of 56.5 meters and George Schubitidze in the juniors. In 2013 Dawit Minasiani and again George Schubitidse won in the juniors.
