Saksi

Saksi (German: Saximois ) was a separate rural community in the Estonian district of Lääne-Viru with an area of ​​109.3 km² until 2005 . It last had 1176 inhabitants.

In 2005 the municipality of Tapa was formed from the municipality together with the municipality of Lehtse and the city of Tapa .

In addition to the main town Moe (population 249), the municipality also included the villages of Imastu, Karkuse, Kiku, Loksu, Lokuta, Nõmmküla, Näo, Pariisi, Piilu, Saiakopli, Saksi, Salda and Vahakulmu.

The manor house of Moe (German: Muddis ) and its owner Hermann Rothase were first mentioned in a document around 1500. It was one of the most successfully designed manor houses in the so-called old style. The Estonian Schnapps Museum ( Eesti Piiritustööstuse Muuseum ) has been located in the estate's former distillery since 1971 .
