Sala Brunet

The Sala Brunet , also known as Cine Eliseo , Auditorio Sodre and now as Auditorio Nelly Goitiño , is a building in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo .

The building, constructed in the 1940s, is located in the Barrio Centro on Avenida 18 de Julio 930 between Convención and Wilson Ferreira Aldunate streets . The architects R. Ruano and A. Pietropinto were responsible for the construction . The Sala Brunet, originally conceived as a cinema, now houses an event hall, a smaller hall as a rehearsal room and a small cinema with the 547-seat main hall , now known as Sala Tosar . The building previously housed the Cine Eliseo (1949–1963, 1967–1978, 1981–1982 and 1985–1986) and the Cine Eliseo Cinerama (1963–1966). Renovation work under the direction of architects Daniel Barreira and Eleonora De León was carried out for around one million dollars from 2006 and was completed in 2008. The new opening took place under the new name Auditorio Nelly Goitiño .
