Salasaca
Salasaca (Kichwa: Salasaka ) is a Kichwa village or parish ( parroquia ) in the Ecuadorian Andes at about 2,750 m above sea level between the cities of Ambato and Baños in the canton of Pelileo in the Tungurahua province . The Salasaca Indians , who belong to the kichwas-speaking peoples, are one of the most independent peoples in Ecuador and have largely preserved their original traditions to this day. These are mainly highland farmers who use the wool from their sheep breeding to weave clothes and carpets with typical local patterns for the large markets of the highlands.
About 12,000 inhabitants, who are counted among the Salsacas, live on an area of about 20 km² around Salasaca. It is reported that the Salasacas originally came from Bolivia and were abducted by the Incas to the Ecuadorian highlands.
