Saley German

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saley German was a high Alemannic dialect that was spoken in the Walser dialect of Saley / Salecchio (now part of the municipality of Premia ). The last residents left Saley in the winter of 1963/64 and moved to the lower Italian-speaking villages. Saley is now only inhabited in summer. In 2008 and 2009, recordings were made again with three speakers, but the dialect of some of them was already heavily overlaid by the neighboring Walsermundart of Pomatt / Formazza .

Saleydeutsch is the only Alemannic dialect and also the only one in the entire Upper German- speaking area that used a living past tense until the second half of the 20th century .
