Salomón Lerner Ghitis (born February 4, 1946 ) is a Peruvian politician. He was Prime Minister of his country in 2011 .

Career

He was installed as Prime Minister by Ollanta Humala on July 28th after the 2011 elections in Peru and resigned on December 10th. With him, as prescribed in Peru, his cabinet took leave, from which some of the ministers in the subsequent cabinet were reappointed. The reason given is a conflict over the expansion of Newmont Mining's activities in the Yanacocha gold mine . While Humala is interested in implementing the project approved by the previous government, Lerner tried to negotiate an agreement with the smallholders concerned. Successor as prime minister was the interior minister in the cabinet of Lerner and former military Óscar Valdés until July 23, 2012 .
