Salvador Novo

Salvador Novo (born July 30, 1904 in Mexico City , † January 13, 1974 ibid) was a Mexican writer , poet and official chronicler of Mexico City.

Life

Together with Xavier Villaurrutia , he founded Ulises magazine in 1927 .

In 1928 he was one of the founding members of Los Contemporáneos and took part in the eponymous magazine Contemporáneos, which they published .

In addition to his literary work, Novo also worked as a language teacher and taught French and English; in this language he also wrote two books, both published in 1934: Seamen Rhymes and Never Ever .

Awards and honors

In 1946 Novo was named the official chronicler of Mexico City and in 1967 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes Mexican literary prize .

The street in the Coyoacán district in the south of Mexico City, where the former residence of Novo was located, now bears his name and is called calle de Salvador Novo .
