Pretzel stick

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thin pretzel sticks

A salt stick is a stick- shaped pastry sprinkled with salt .

Their size and the batter used vary widely. The basic ingredients of the dough are flour (usually wheat flour), vegetable oil (usually sunflower oil or rapeseed oil), salt, water, malt and yeast. Before the pretzel sticks are baked, they are bathed in caustic soda , which later ensures the brown surface and typical taste.

The pretzel stick comes from the USA; the pretzel sticks there went back to the pretzel that was imported from southern Germany to the USA in the late 18th century . In 1935 the idea was taken up by the Hanover company H. Bahlsen's biscuit factory and the product was marketed as Salzlette in Germany.

"Pretzel sticks and cola " used to be used together as home remedies for vomiting and diarrhea , but are counterproductive because of the sugar content of cola. Because of their sodium content in combination with other foods, pretzel sticks are suitable for building up a diet after diarrhea.
