The salt water-Verlag was in 2009 Paderborn founded and took over the program of previously paid employment Imprints saltwater from Bremen. He sells u. a. maritime literature.

According to its own information, the publisher had published more than 2000 titles. In addition to maritime literature, travel reports, history and business books were published or reprinted. Another focus was on culinary books from the 19th and 20th centuries.

After several changes of name, the publisher was last, since 2009, part of a "Europäische Hochschulverlag-Beteiligungs-GmbH" in Bremen. This company was dissolved by resolution of the shareholders' meeting on December 16, 2013. The liquidator was Thomas Hoppe. The publisher itself remained in existence until 2016.

According to the German National Library , the last titles were published under this publisher name in 2016, in recent years only reprints of old books, mostly in electronic form.
