Samuel John "Sam" Small (born May 15, 1912 in Birmingham , † December 13, 1993 ibid) was an English football player.

Career

The unselfish and zealous center forward came in 1934 from amateur club Bromsgrove Rovers to first division club Birmingham . After six missions, he moved to the second division club West Ham United in early 1937 , where he was used more regularly. Until the war-related cessation of league operations, he scored 30 goals in 55 league games for West Ham. In the regional divisions of the Wartime League , Small continued to play for the Hammers and came to 155 league appearances and 60 hits until the resumption of play in the Football League in the summer of 1946; in the final of the Football League War Cup 1939/40, he scored the 1-0 winner against Blackburn Rovers at London's Wembley Stadium in front of 42,000 spectators .

Until March 1948, Small continued his professional career at West Ham before he moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Football League Third Division , where he succeeded in 38 league appearances until the end of his professional career in 1950. Small died in Birmingham in 1993 .
