Same day delivery

Same Day Delivery (SDD) is a form of a courier express parcel service that delivers parcels faster, ideally within a calendar day or within a scheduled time window .

The supply chain of a courier express parcel service usually needs a night jump to deliver consignments as groupage in planned tours in a meaningful follow-up . Same Day Delivery offers direct tours, whereby the primary goal is not ideal transport network structures , but punctuality . Since long national journeys are not possible, same day delivery is only offered within city logistics in large cities and is more expensive than a normal delivery. In particular, food , pharmaceuticals , spare parts and other urgently needed goods should be shipped in this way.

Although same day delivery in Western Europe is forecast to have a volume of three billion euros by 2020, only a niche market is expected due to the higher costs and frugality of customers.

DHL sometimes offers delivery from partner shops on the same day. As a test, it is also possible to have shipments delivered by taxis.

In the USA, there are several companies offering SDD, especially in San Francisco: Amazon.com , Google ( Google Express ), United States Postal Service , FedEx or delivery.com, which deliver groceries from local retailers. In London, Shutl delivers on the same day.
