Hans Schärli

Hans Schärli (born July 15, 1925 in Zell LU ; † May 24, 2014 in Schötz ) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ) from the canton of Lucerne . The Catholic industrialist was a member of the National Council from 1975 to 1987 .

biography

Hans Schärli grew up in a shoemaker's family in Zell LU and did an apprenticeship as a chemist in Lucerne. At the age of 22 he opened his own drugstore in Schötz. In 1978 Schärli became President of the Canton of Lucerne Retail Association (DVL). He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Chamber of the Swiss Trade Association . When he resigned as DVL President in 1991, he was elected Honorary President.

In 1986 Schärli was President of the Central Switzerland Committee against Switzerland's accession to the UN , which was rejected in Central Switzerland with 82% no votes (75.7% nationally). At that time the committee included a. the theologian Herbert Haag , the later Federal Councilor Kaspar Villiger , Karl Tschuppert and the later Lucerne Councilor of States Helen Leumann . In 2002 joining the UN was accepted in a second vote with 54.6% yes-votes.

Hans Schärli held numerous board memberships. He was u. a. 1983 founding president of the Luzerner Raststätten AG (Lurag), Neuenkirch, and from 1986 member of the executive committee, from 1990 president of the Swiss Commercial Vehicle Association (Astag).

Schärli had been with Margrit Schärli, born in 1948. Ludin, married and had three daughters and two sons with her, including the Swiss jazz trumpeter Peter Schärli .

Political career

Hans Schärli began his political career in 1957 as the mayor of Schötz. He held this office until 1971, during which time he was also the managing director of the cantonal association of municipal officials and a member of the Swiss association of municipalities. In 1971 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Lucerne and in 1975 to the National Council. In 1979 he resigned from the Grand Council.

From 1978 onwards, Schärli was president of the trade group of the CVP parliamentary group in the National Council, and from the start he was also a member of the vocational training, later the business audit and finance commission and finally, in his third legislature, a member of the finance delegation of the federal councils. In his political work he mainly represented the concerns of trade and retail. In addition, he campaigned for the education of young people.

Thanks to his connections through business circles, Hans Schärli had good access to other parliamentary groups and therefore also influence in Federal Council elections .
