Collecting

Carola Ertle Ketterer and Günther Ketterer started buying art out of family passion. Günther Ketterer's father, the art dealer and auctioneer Norbert Ketterer, laid the foundation stone for the Kirchner Museum Davos as the administrator of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner 's estate . Fascinated by the works of German Expressionism, the collector couple came to the expressive and large-format painting of the Neue Wilde and thus to contemporary art. Contemporary artistic methods found their way into the collection in the form of installation and interactive works. In 1996, Carola and Günther Ketterer-Ertle acquired a video work by the artist Frantiček Klossner - a first purchase of video art. Today this medium is a focus of active collecting and mediation activities. In addition to two-dimensional works, sculptures and objects, the collection also includes installations, interactive media projects and artist's books . The personal contact and direct exchange with the artists is a central criterion of the collecting activity and is the basis for the mostly long-term cooperation.

Life and commitment

Günther Ketterer has been an independent trustee and real estate trustee since 1981. With Carola Ertle Ketterer, he has been running the TIS trustee office in Bern since 1995. To complement their own collection activities, Carola Ertle Ketterer and Günther Ketterer launched the videokunst.ch project together with Galerie Bernhard Bischoff and Galerie Henze & Ketterer in 2004 . The platform for video art contains a showroom in the Bern cultural center Progr and a video window in the Bienzgut. Eight to ten exhibitions are shown each year. In 2007 the collector couple founded the OVRA Archives association, which offers artists a digital archive of works. In 2010, the ART estate foundation for artists was launched with the aim of commemorating the work of important artists in the service of cultural memory and ensuring that their works were recognized by the general public.
