Fackelmann Collection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fackelmann Collection was a private collection of fragments of manuscripts, mainly papyri belonging to the Viennese conservator Anton Fackelmann .

history

The collection was founded by Anton Fackelmann, who was the curator in the papyrus collection of the Austrian National Library in Vienna. He acquired many manuscripts on a trip to Egypt in 1969 . The collection consisted of manuscripts with historical, economic, medical, biblical and other content.

After his death, the collection became the property of his son Anton Fackelmann jr. in Steyr . He sold parts of the collection in 1998 to the Schøyen Collection in Oslo , further parts were offered for auction at Sotheby's in 2009 and 2014. The new owners are unclear, the Schøyen Collection probably bought some fragments again.
