Anton Fackelmann

Anton Fackelmann (born September 14, 1916 in Sanktmartin near Arad , † April 6, 1985 in Pressbaum , Lower Austria) was an Austrian restorer of papyri and author of specialist articles on the restoration and preservation of manuscripts. He created his own collection ( Fackelmann Collection ) of papyrus and parchment manuscripts .

Anton Fackelmann worked for a long time as curator of the papyrus collection of the Austrian National Library in Vienna . In 1965 he developed a new method for restoring charred papyrus fragments. In 1969, on a trip to Egypt, he acquired numerous papyrus fragments, from which he built up his own private collection. After his death in 1985, his son Anton Fackelmann jr. the collection and sold parts of it.
