Samsung Life Insurance (Korean: 삼성 생명 보험) is a South Korean multinational insurance company headquartered in Seoul ( South Korea ) and a subsidiary of Samsung Group . It is the largest insurance company in South Korea and among the 500 largest companies in the world by revenue.

Samsung Life Insurance's main products include life insurance , health insurance and annuity insurance . Samsung Life was a privately held company from its inception in 1957 until it went public in May 2010. The initial public offering was the largest in South Korea's history and made Samsung Life one of the most valuable companies in the country by market capitalization .

Founded in 1957, the company grew rapidly and became a market leader in just 18 months. Since then, Samsung Life Insurance has maintained its leadership in the industry through product innovation, marketing and sales. Growth was particularly accelerated after the company became part of the Samsung Group in 1963.

In 1986 the company opened representative offices in New York City and Tokyo . Overseas business was expanded through a joint venture in Thailand in 1997 and China in 2005. The company was the first life insurance company in Korea, with assets of 100 trillion won in 2006 . On May 12, 2010, Samsung Life Insurance went public, the shares had a starting price of 110,000 won, or $ 96 per share, for a total of $ 4.4 billion.
