Samuel Elmore Cannery
The Samuel Elmore Cannery (English: "Samuel Elmore Canning Factory") was a factory in Astoria , Oregon, and from 1966 to 1993 on the list of National Historic Landmarks .
Founded in 1898, the company was the longest continuously operating fish canning factory in the United States, operating from 1898 until it closed in 1980. The company primarily produced canned salmon and sold its products under the Bumble Bee brand .
Due to declining salmon stocks, the factory's products were diversified in the 1930s. For example, large quantities of tuna were now processed. In 1980 the factory was shut down. Due to the dilapidation of the old building, it was decided to demolish it in 1991. It burned down in 1993 and was removed from the list of National Historic Landmarks and removed from the National Register of Historic Places .
