Samuel Horton Jones (politician, I)

Samuel Horton Jones (* 19th century; † 20th century) was a businessman and politician in the British colony of Gambia .

Life

Jones was an Anglican trader originally from Sierra Leone who had lived in Bathurst since 1874. He and his wife Maryann Gabbidon were wealthy Aku merchants in Bathurst (now Banjul ) around the turn of the century . In 1906 and 1911 he was appointed a member of the Gambian Legislative Council , as a so-called "Unofficial Member", by Governor George Chardin Denton . He stayed in office until 1906 when he left for health reasons.

family

The son Samuel Horton Jones comes from the marriage with Maryann Gabbidon . he became a doctor and was also politically active.
