Samuel Smith (politician, before 1780)

Samuel Smith (* before 1780, † after 1815) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1811 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The dates of life of Samuel Smith are not known. There is also little information about his life beyond politics. Between 1803 and 1805 he was an associate judge in Erie County , Pennsylvania. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s .

After the resignation of MP John Baptiste Charles Lucas , Smith was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on November 7, 1805. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1811 . In 1810 it was not confirmed. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, the trail of Samuel Smith is lost again.
