San Antonio Museum of Art
The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) is located in a converted brewery building in the center of the Texan city of San Antonio . The back of the building is directly adjacent to the San Antonio River .
history
In the 1970s, both private foundations and the city expressed ideas and suggestions for establishing a museum. The inner-city production and administration building of the Lone Star Brewery , which was abandoned after the sale, was acquired and converted for the new purpose. The museum opened its doors in 1981.
Collections
The museum, which initially specialized in (old) American and European art, expanded its field of activity considerably - also due to donations and foundations. Today the museum is also interested in the art of ancient Mediterranean cultures, the art of Persia, India and East Asia as well as Islamic and oceanic art. In addition, there are numerous temporary exhibitions on various topics.
