Damaris Nübling

Damaris Nübling (* 1963 in Hohenau , Paraguay ) is a German linguist .

life and work

After studying Romance and German linguistics at the University of Freiburg , Nübling learned about Klitika in German in 1991 . Theory, high-level language, dialect, writing doctorate. 1992–1998 she worked as a research assistant at the German Department of the University of Freiburg. In 1998 she completed her habilitation there with a study on the principles of the irregularization of verbs in ten Germanic languages. From 1998 to 2000 she was a professor at the University of Freiburg. Since 2000 she has been Professor of Historical German Linguistics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

Her main research interests include name research , morphological change , grammaticalization , linguistic doubtful cases and gender linguistics . From 2005 to 2016 she headed the DFG-funded German Surname Atlas (DFA) project with Konrad Kunze , Freiburg . Since 2012 she has been leading (with Nina Janich , Darmstadt) the project Digitales Family Name Dictionary of Germany (DFD) , since 2015 (with Peter Gilles , Luxemburg and Helen Christen , Switzerland) the project Das Anna und ihr Hund. Female first names in the neuter. Sociopragmatic vs. semantic gender assignment in dialects of German and Luxembourgish . In addition, she leads the DFG research group Un / Doing Differences in Mainz . Practices of human differentiation, the sub-projects on “Self- naming of transgender people” and “Difference marking through free change of first name in Sweden”. She is co-editor of the two journals Contributions to the History of German Language and Literature (PBB) and Contributions to Name Research (BNF) .
