San Benedetto (Catania)

The Church of San Benedetto is an 18th century church in the Sicilian city of Catania on Via dei Crociferi .
It was built between 1704 and 1713 in the Sicilian Baroque style and was dedicated to Saint Benedict of Nursia . The vaults were frescoed by Giovanni Tuccari , Sebastiano Lo Monaco and Matteo Desiderato around 1750 . Particularly noteworthy is the gallery , which was provided with a high balustrade to protect the nuns from prying eyes, but still give them the opportunity to take part in the mass .
