The San Diego Mariners were an American ice hockey franchise of the Pacific Hockey League based in San Diego , California .
history
The franchise was founded in 1977 as a member of the Pacific Hockey League . The name was chosen based on the World Hockey Association team of the same name . In the 1977/78 season, the team finished third in the regular season. The franchise was then sold and continued to play in the PHL for the 1978/79 season as the San Diego Hawks. In the regular season they took second place, with the league being dissolved while the game was still running. Then the San Diego Hawks also stopped playing.
