San Giorgio dei Greci is a Greek Orthodox church in Venice , in the Sestiere Castello . Since 1991 San Giorgio has been the seat of the Archdiocese of Italy and Malta, which is part of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople .

In the middle of the 16th century, the Orthodox Greeks living in Venice received permission from the Senate to build their church in the Castello district, near the Rio Greci canal of the same name. Architects of the church were Sante Lombardo and Giannantonio Chiona.

The complex included a seminary, a girls' school and a women's convent. Near the church is the Collegio Flanghini , built by Baldassare Longhena , which owes itself to a testamentary foundation by Tommaso Flanghini from 1644 and which has been the Istituto Ellenico di Studi Bizantini e Postbizantini di Venezia ( Greek Institute for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice ) since 1953 houses.
