description

It was built as a three-aisled basilica with a portico, a transept and three apses. The arches between the marble columns, the carefully worked capitals and the octagonal choir that ends in a dome give the image of a typical Sicilian Renaissance church. The multi-colored marble floor of the transept dates from the 18th century, only remains of the original terracotta have been preserved in the right aisle. The stucco decoration, like the two figures of Justitia and Caritas, comes from Procopio Serpotta . The tomb for Don Tommaso Trabucco (1690–1761), one of the rectors of the Brotherhood of San Giovanni Battista, was made by Emmanuele Gabriele.

By lengthening Via Vittorio Emanuele to Porta Felice , the portico was trimmed and additions to the street were removed.
