The Sandstone Amphitheater (also known as Providence Medical Center Amphitheater , Sandstone Center for the Performing Arts , Verizon Wireless Amphitheater , Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone, and Cricket Wireless Amphitheater ) is an amphitheater in Bonner Springs .
History and use
The outdoor arena was designed by Bird Engineering and built between 1983 and 1984. Renovated in 2008 and 2016, the amphitheater is owned by the Kansas City and Wyandotte Counties and was established as the Sandstone Center for the Performing Arts . Over the years, nicknames such as Sandstone Amphitheater , Sandstone Center for the Performing Arts, and Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone developed for the theater. With changing operators and sponsors, the names of the venue changed to Cricket Wireless Amphitheater , Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, and Providence Medical Center Amphitheater . It has space for 18,000 spectators.
British rock musician Eric Clapton performed in the sold out amphitheater as part of his Journeyman World Tour in 1990.
