Sandy Reyes

Sandy Reyes Pichardo (* before 1981 in Concepción de la Vega ) is a Dominican merengue singer.

Reyes grew up with nine sisters and was abused by his alcoholic father. He ran away from home at the age of eleven and made a living by giving guitar lessons and singing at the Vega Vieja restaurant . He was noticed by the singers Niní Cáffaro and Sonia Silvestre , who performed with Tito Delgado at the Teatro Vega Real and was accepted by them in the program Nosotros a las ochos .

At the age of fourteen he came into contact with merengue for the first time as a singer in the orchestra of Rafael Solano . He then performed at the Hotel Jaragua for a year before he met Domingo Bautista , Cholo Brenes and Wilfrido Vargas at the Hotel Comodoro and was accepted into their ensemble. In nine years of collaboration, merengues such as El pájaro Showí , Solina, Solina and La pringamosa were created .

After this time, he and Dioni Fernández the ensemble El equipo de Dioni Fernandez , with whom he titles such as El guardia del arsenal , Yo quisiera and Yo te amo más (of Yaqui Núñez recorded). His most successful album, Abusadora , was created in 1981 with Wilfredo Vargas . In the following years up to 1989 he directed his own ensemble with which he produced successful titles such as Tengo un pie aquí y el otro allá , El tiburón , Enamorar , Margarita , Mi novia, mi amante y mi mujer and the ballad Lluvia . During this time he also founded his own record label, SR récords (later SR Music ).

Alcohol problems, which accompanied him since childhood, and later an increasing drug abuse interrupted his musical career. After turning to Christianity, Reyes overcame drug addiction and returned to work as a musician. For his label, he produced an album with the Bachate singer Arcadio , and he also began again to record his own songs, some of which were religious.
