Dioni Fernández

Dioni Fernández (born March 24, 1952 in Villa Francisca ) is a Dominican merengue musician.

Life

Fernández studied saxophone and clarinet at the Academia Musical Iris del Valle from 1967 . With Manuel Tejada , Jorge Taveras and El Gran Comprés , he founded the rock group Iron Fire in the late 1960s . From 1973 to 1975 he directed Ema Balaguer's orchestra Cruzada de Amor and came into contact with the merengue for the first time . He continued his musical training between 1973 and 1977 at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música .

In 1977 Félix del Rosario engaged him as the pianist of the Los Magos del Ritmo group , and in the following year he was accepted by Cholo Brenes into the Los Hijos del Rey , which emerged from the "Los Magos" . As a member of the group he performed with Fernando Villalona and Raulín Rosendo, among others . With Sandy Reyes , who had left Wilfrido Vargas' orchestra , he founded the El Equipo orchestra , which debuted in Azua in 1980.

With El Equipo he recorded titles such as El guardia del arsenal in 1981 . After Reyes left and was replaced by Charlie Rodríguez , Karen Récords released the orchestra's first albums. In the 1980s and 1990s, titles such as Cal y arena , Los diseñadores and Oye muchacha were created with the singers Rodríguez and Sergio Vargas . In addition to Sandy Reyes, Charlie Rodríguez and Sergio Vargas, El Equipo produced merengue musicians such as Carlos David , Pablo Martínez , Kaki Vargas and Diómedes Núñez .
