Sanggan Basin

The Sanggan Basin ( 桑 干 盆地 , Sanggan pendi , English Sanggan Basin ) or Xuanda Basin ( 宣 大 盆地 , Xuan-Da pendi , English Xuanda Basin , from "Xuan" = Xuanhua and "Da" = Datong) is a basin in North Shanxi and Northwest Hebei in the People's Republic of China . It is named after the Sanggan He river , which runs through its center. It lies between the Inner and Outer Great Wall . It forms its western partDatong basin ( 大同 盆地 , Datong pendi ), the eastern part of the Xuanhua basin ( 宣化 盆地 , Xuanhua pendi ). It lies at an average altitude of around 600 to 1000 meters. It is rich in coal and iron.
