Sangri Kharmar ( Tib. Zang ri mkhar dmar ), also Zangri Kharmar or Machig-Labdrön Temple , etc., is an important place of Chöd direction ( gcod or gcod yul or gcod yul pa ) of Tibetan Buddhism in the circle Sangri of the administrative district Shannan (Lhoka) in Tibet . The site is located on a mountain to the east of Sangri. The cave meditation site was founded by Macig Labdrön in 1086 . The temple complex built later has two floors. In the first there is a portrait of Shakyamuni and portraits of Tsongkhapa and two of his disciples, as well as sutras from Kanjur and Tanjur from the Tibetan Tripitaka . The second floor is a large hall that houses portraits of Macig Labdrön and other masters of the Chöd direction. The site had experienced an eventful history over the years and was claimed not only by the Chöd direction, but also by the Gelug and Kagyu schools.

Quote

"The Red Citadel (Kharmar) is thus called because is was built upon a red rock, at the southern extremity of the Copper Mountain (Sangri), overloooking the northern banks of the Tsangpo river. On the cliff-face to the west of the temple (which was destroyed by the Chinese) is Machik Labdrön's (1055–1149) meditation cave. ""
