Santa Barbara SB 155/39

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Santa Barbara SB 155/39 is a Spanish howitzer in caliber mm 155th

The howitzer was developed by the Spanish company Santa Bárbara Sistemas , a state-owned arms factory. The gun was designed so that it can be air-packaged . Basically it is a conventional traction gun. Two spreader bars give the gun stability. The mount rests on the front axle. Smaller auxiliary wheels make it easier to assemble the weapon. The use of an auxiliary engine was not originally intended. In the following years, however, the guns were equipped with a small diesel engine as an auxiliary drive.

The requirement of the Spanish army also stipulated that the guns should be suitable for combat in mountainous terrain. This prompted the engineers to design the gun in such a way that a large lateral directional area was possible. With almost 60 ° to the side pointing, the howitzer does not actually have to be moved at all if you want to change the direction of fire. Santa Barbara SB 155/39 is only used by Spain itself. An export of the weapon is not known, although there is an export version.
