Santa Maria in Campo is a Roman Catholic church in Florence located in Piazza di Santa.

History and art

The church was first mentioned in 1137 and at that time stood on the other side of the first city wall (hence the name in campo = in the open field). In 1568 the church was rededicated. The simple front facade goes back to this time.

In the church there is a marble sarcophagus under the tabernacle with the remains of St. Julian , a Christian martyr .
