Santana is a cultivar of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ). Bred in 1978 in the Netherlands, it is a cross of Elstar and Priscilla . It comes from a breeding program with the Japanese wild apple ( Malus floribunda ) and is specially bred for resistance to apple scab . Santana has been in stores since 1996.
description
Santana is medium to large in size. The basic color of the shell is yellow-green to green, on the sunny side it is bright red. Depending on the individual apple, this color is marbled to completely flat.
The tree itself is growing strongly.
Cultivation
Santana is highly susceptible to powdery mildew , but has some tolerance to fruit tree cancer .
It was discovered by chance at the Agricultural Faculty of Wageningen University that Santana causes fewer or no reactions in people who are allergic to apples .
