Sanudo

Sanudo is the name of a Venetian patrician family that was one of the twelve noble houses of Venice and thus one of the oldest and most distinguished members of the Grand Council of the Republic of Venice (see: Patriciate of Venice ).

Its members include:

  • Marco Sanudo († 1227), nephew of the Venetian Doge Enrico Dandolo and participant in the Fourth Crusade
  • Marino Sanudo the Elder (c. 1260-1338), Torcello, Venetian merchant, writer and geographer
  • Marino Sanudo (called Marino Sanuto the Younger; 1466–1536), Italian historian, politician and diary writer
